A handcrafted fire kit including a Scav Eng exclusive designed 45° degree oak handle ferro rod, oak handle striker, handmade fire cord in tin, magnifying glass, and cinch pouch!
Another true one-of-a-kind Scav Eng item. Traditional Ferrocerium (Ferro) Rods are vertical creating a hassle to ignite tinder. This kit features an oak handle which offers the traditional style, but also has a hole for a 45° hold so you don’t accidentally scatter your tinder to the wind. Simply pull the Ferro Rod out and swap to the hold you like best. Oak handled striker has a serrated edge, to create significantly more sparks in an easy to use vertical hold.
The Scav Eng Fire Cord packs 10’ of fire starting capability in one tin. A VERY CONSERVATIVE estimate (due to the handmade nature we use the lowest estimate) of fire starter is 30 minutes of total fire starter burn time packed in one tin. The Scav Eng Fire Cord does not absorb water or moisture, making it very water resistant and the screw on lid provides extra tinder protection.
Included in the kit is a small handheld magnifying glass for those sunny days, and will work well for igniting dry grass or other small tinder (igniting the Scav Eng Fire Cord is possible with the magnifying glass, however it is not as easy as using the Ferro Rod). This is all packed into a black cinch pouch with a red logo.
Use
Gather tinder, and small sticks to get your fire started and have them at the ready. PULL APART one precut section of Scav Eng Fire Cord and fluff it up into a small round pile. It is pulled apart to make the strands as small as possible and provide extra oxygen. Hold your Ferro Rod over the Fire Cord in whichever handle angle you like best, and run the striker down the Ferro Rod slowly a couple of times to put shavings on the Fire Cord. Then strike quickly to create sparks and ignite the Fire Cord. Your Scav Eng Fire Cord will burn with a significant flame for at least 1 minute. Place your gathered tinder/small sticks over the strong flame coming off the Scav Eng Fire Cord, and ensure not to smother the flame. Slowly add larger and larger sticks to the pile and watch your campfire grow!
